EILEEN HOWLEY
In many ways, I have lived the tenets of CSP through my marriage with Patrick. The constructs of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard have shaped our marriage over time. Through this daily work, I have learned the power of deep listening, of suspending your own thoughts to just be present to one another. I have applied that understanding throughout my 34+ year career in public education. In the past decade, I have participated in the development of Patrick’s Encounter with Self. The work began in quiet meditation sessions in our home, which evolved over the years to this unique spiritual experience of Encounter with Self. I have always been a spiritual person and this work unites those parts of myself that begin at my core.
In the past 20 years, in my own career, I attempted to bring a more person-centered approach to leadership across a variety of settings. In recent years, when I arrived at CSP for the first time, it felt like coming home and helped me to better recognize my own approach to leadership development in my career and my consulting. I have spent my life’s journey on a search for authenticity. I believe that is the journey I am still on–one of learning to be my most authentic self as I continue to work to support others along on their own journeys. CSP supports me in that quest. I feel most alive on the shoreline in Matunuck, RI, where we reside and on the beaches in Aruba; in fact, where ever the ocean is, I like to find myself.
